Feb 2009
Well things are looking up, for a start it's my birthday today, plus we have a new President AND a new govenor here in Illinois. I hope it makes a difference......time will tell . A lot of people are losing their jobs out there and things are getting desperate .....
At the moment the band is busy in the studio and we hope to have the new tracks ready in a few weeks, so stay tuned.
Also we seem to be getting a lot of hits from Ireland, especially Dublin, so sliante to you guys !
HAPPY NEW YEAR !! I HOPE 2009 IS BETTER THAN 2008
December 2008
Well considering that it's Christmas time and the season of good will we are giving away three pieces of music for free. They are just short pieces that I've had lying around for a while so I thought I would share them. However you will notice that these are not jazz pieces, the first is based on Gregorian chant and the other two are in the style of J.S. Bach but played on mallets and bells. I like them and I hope you do too........
These days the band is busy working in guitar player Robert Baglione. He's a great player who brings a lot of experience to the band and fills out the sounds a lot, he's also a powerful soloist as well as a really amusing guy ! You can check out his c.d.s at iTunes. We intend to do some recording just after the New Year, depending on the hangover situation............stay warm everyone.
Well as regular visitors to the site can see we have a new drummer , Gary Donnelly. Gary has been active on the Chicago scene for quite a few years as a player and teacher and brings a fresh approach and great chops to the band. We are busy working on new material in order to do some recording again in late September. This time we will probably expand the band's sound and bring in some guests on sax and guitar. It should be great and we are all looking forward to it. In the meantime we are off to Ireland.....
Well the sun is now shining in Chicago and it's getting nice and warm again. Summer will be here soon. The trio has been busy rehearsing new material and doing some real stereo recordings with Ken Christianson at the Irish Heritage Center. Ken is an expert in this type of recording technique and has worked with many top players over the years. In fact he just got back from L.A. last week after recording the great Charlie Haden . The sound quality is amazing and relies on the natural acoustics of the hall. Very cool. I,m posting some of the files on this web site although they will be in mp3 format so the sound quality will not really be evident. There are also some recent photos showing my new custom built vibraphone sides made from cherry wood. The new sides make transporting the thing a lot easier. All this thanks to Ted Furman (a.k.a.Spacebrewer). Thanks Ted!!
cheers
Ray
